Plaza Home ResEst, basic rooms in the centre of Valencia

Plaza Home ResEst is a place with simple rooms in the old town of Valencia, in Ciutat Vella, close to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and the Estación del Norte. It runs without a reception desk and has a reputation for noise. I would book it only for a short stay, on a tight budget and if you sleep soundly.
Mapiola is a travel blog: this is not the official website of Plaza Home ResEst.
Where Plaza Home is and how to get there
Plaza Home ResEst is in the heart of Valencia's old town, on Sant Vicent Màrtir street, in the Ciutat Vella district. Its great asset is the location, and almost all guests agree on that.
It is very close to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and a short walk from the Estación del Norte, so you can arrive by train or metro and get around without a car. Nearby are the Basilica of the Virgen de los Desamparados, the National Ceramics Museum and the Turia Gardens. To see Valencia on foot, it is hard to find a better starting point with this type of accommodation.
What the rooms are like
Plaza Home ResEst works more like a hostel than a hotel. It has 16 simple rooms that look onto the inner courtyard, many with a private bathroom, and the idea is to sleep and little else.
- What is there. Air conditioning, heating, a desk, a flat-screen TV, a wardrobe, bed linen and towels, as well as a lift and free WiFi.
- The bed and cleanliness. Several guests mention a comfortable bed, clean linen and a tidy room, although some note that it is rather small.
- Access. There is no reception. According to guests, you are sent a code by email or WhatsApp and the locks are keypad locks, with no keys.
- Noise. The description mentions soundproofed windows, but several guests say the walls are thin and you can hear the neighbours and the street.
There is also accessibility designed for people with reduced mobility, according to the property's details, and shared areas such as the courtyard.
What guests highlight
On Google, Plaza Home ResEst has a rating of 2.4 out of 5 from 143 reviews. It is a low score, but reading the reviews shows that it depends a lot on what each person expects for the price.
The most repeated point is the location, described as perfect or excellent, together with a price many consider reasonable for being right in the centre. Several guests say they found the room clean, the bed comfortable and the WiFi good, and that the shower had good pressure. Some travelled in a group of friends and would go back.
The criticisms go in a different direction. Complaints about poor attention come up again and again: phone calls and messages go unanswered, and, according to several guests, the air conditioning cannot be adjusted in the room. One person says it switched off in the early hours and that they were hot in summer. Towels are rationed, there is no shampoo or shower gel, a shower runs cold or has problems, and some report a leaking tap.
What to know before booking
Plaza Home ResEst is cheap for a reason, so it is best to go in without high expectations. These are the two sides I see in the reviews.
| The good | What to know |
|---|---|
| Very central location, near the Ayuntamiento and the station | There is no reception and it can be hard to get anyone to answer |
| Comfortable bed and clean linen, according to many guests | Thin walls and street noise, in an area with traffic |
| Good value for the centre | General air conditioning, with no control in each room |
| Free WiFi and a lift | Small rooms, with towels and bathroom items that are scarce |
My advice is to save the phone number and the access code before you arrive, especially if you are going in late, because several guests found themselves not knowing how to get in. If you go in summer, ask about the air conditioning, which is the most serious complaint in the most recent reviews. And if you sleep badly with noise, take earplugs.
Who it suits and what to see nearby
I would choose Plaza Home in Valencia for a short break with friends or as a couple on a tight budget, who will spend the day out and just need a clean bed in a good location. It also suits anyone arriving or leaving by train who does not want to complicate getting around.
I would not recommend it to anyone looking for service, a quiet night's sleep or a long stay, or to anyone who puts air conditioning and attentive staff above price. If that is you, first look at alternatives in the city such as the Hostal La Barraca Suites in Valencia. And if you fancy getting out of the capital, the same region has the Hostal Ducal II in Gandía.
For day-to-day life, from Plaza Home you can walk to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the Basilica of the Virgen de los Desamparados and the National Ceramics Museum, and head down to the Turia Gardens. One guest also mentions that public transport gets you to Valencia's beaches.
