B&B La Maison Boutique, a fairytale villa in Desenzano

B&B La Maison Boutique in Desenzano del Garda

B&B La Maison Boutique is a bed and breakfast in a fairytale villa in Desenzano del Garda, in Lombardy, close to the old town. I recommend it to couples and curious travellers who love details, a generous breakfast and a hostess who gives excellent tips.

Mapiola is a travel blog: this is not the official website of B&B La Maison Boutique.

Where B&B La Maison Boutique is in Desenzano del Garda

B&B La Maison Boutique is on Via Gramsci, in Desenzano del Garda, in Lombardy. It is a central position, close to Desenzanino beach, the castle and the old town. Some guests say you can walk to the centre without any bother.

Parking needs a clarification. The property information says there is free parking on site, while some reviews describe it as free but a few minutes' walk away. If you come by car, write first and ask where to leave it.

You may also find it under the name B&B La Maison degli Angeli, so if that is what you search for, you are in the right place.

The villa and the rooms

La Maison Boutique occupies an elegant villa, and its character is the first thing guests mention. They talk about unique decorations, objects chosen one by one and an atmosphere some compare to "Alice in Wonderland". It is not a run-of-the-mill B&B, and I mean that as a compliment.

The rooms have air conditioning, heating, flat-screen TV, minibar, fridge, kettle, safe, wardrobe and a private bathroom with shower and bidet. Some have a balcony or terrace. Outside there is a garden, and there is also luggage storage.

What guests say

The Google rating is 4.8, from 165 reviews. The reviews I have read, on Google and on Tripadvisor, repeat almost the same points.

  • The hostess. Many guests speak fondly of Federica. They describe her as welcoming, eccentric, professional and always ready to give advice on dinner and excursions.
  • Breakfast. Described as generous and abundant, with homemade cakes, and it changes every day. The description mentions cured meats, fruit, pastries and eggs.
  • The rooms. Very comfortable beds, beautiful and clean rooms, looked after in every detail.
  • The atmosphere. Words like fairytale and wonderland come up often, even years later.

Someone stayed here with their dogs and had no problems. A family with a small child fondly remembers the gentle manners of the hostess.

What to know before booking

None of the reviews I read are negative, so the drawbacks are mine to point out, based on the data.

  • Style. The décor is eclectic, full of objects and very personal. Anyone who prefers a sober, minimalist style might feel out of place.
  • Parking. The sources do not agree, as I said. Ask to confirm before you arrive.
  • The hostess's style. For many it is the main strength, but it is very personal management. If you want an anonymous reception desk, you will not find it here.

Who it is suitable for

I would choose it for a weekend as a couple, or for anyone who loves places with a strong personality. It also works well for those travelling with a pet, since they accept animals on request. The breakfast alone is worth part of the stay, judging by the comments.

I would avoid it if you want an impersonal hotel, with standard services and no conversation in the morning. Here the hostess is part of the experience.

Things to do in Desenzano del Garda and around

In Desenzano del Garda the old town, the castle and Desenzanino beach are all within walking distance. For dinner and excursions, several guests recommend following the hostess's suggestions.

If you want to widen your trip around the lake, Mapiola also has B&B Villa Giulia Rooms & Bike in Toscolano Maderno, B&B Ombretta in Valeggio sul Mincio and Villa Noce - Guest House in Brescia. They are alternatives worth comparing, each in a different area.
