Hotel Villa Giulietta, on the Brenta Riviera between Venice and Padua

Hotel Villa Giulietta in Fiesso d'Artico

Hotel Villa Giulietta is a hotel in Fiesso d'Artico, on the Brenta Riviera, halfway between Venice and Padua. It has a buffet breakfast, free parking and a staffed reception throughout the day. I see it as a good base for anyone visiting the Brenta villas by car, provided they accept rooms that are a little dated.

Where Hotel Villa Giulietta is and how to get there

Hotel Villa Giulietta is in Fiesso d'Artico, in Veneto, along the Brenta Riviera, halfway between Venice and Padua. It is an address designed for people touring the area by car, rather than for those who want to stay in the heart of a city.

Guests appreciate its central position with regard to the Palladian villas and the other stops along the Riviera, and say that Padua and Venice are easy to reach. One review calls the position not ideal, but still close to the main sights to visit in a day. The free private parking is mentioned by many, including those travelling in a van for work.

What the rooms and common areas are like

The building was once an aristocratic villa, with contemporary interiors and natural materials. It has around 56 rooms spread over three floors, with air conditioning, a TV with satellite channels, a safe, a minibar, free WiFi and a private bathroom with a bidet.

  • The rooms. Some have a sitting area with a sofa and a writing desk, or a small dressing area. Guests find them clean and with a fairly comfortable bed, although not very large.
  • Common areas. There is a bar and lounge, a coffee corner, a garden to relax in, and a restaurant that one review praised for its glass-domed dining room.
  • Services. Reception is staffed at all times, with multilingual staff, daily cleaning, laundry, luggage storage and a business centre with meeting rooms.
  • Rules. Check-in from 2pm, check-out by 11am. Pets are not allowed.

What guests say

Google gives Hotel Villa Giulietta 3.8 out of 5 from 467 reviews. It is an average score, and reading the comments makes clear why: many guests are happy, few are very unhappy, and the weak point is mainly the condition of the rooms.

Among the strong points, the friendly and helpful staff, the cleanliness and the breakfast come up again and again. Several guests describe it as generous, with a choice of sweet and savoury items, eggs, pastries and fresh juice, and some recall the care taken with intolerances and allergies. People also like the value for money and the convenience of the parking.

On breakfast, though, there is no consensus. One review would like it improved, and another finds the savoury offer weak compared with the sweet one. One guest writes that the rooms are soundproofed, while another was disturbed all night by the noise of the plant. It happens, and it is worth knowing.

What to know before booking

The problems reported concern the age of the building and some service episodes. I list them alongside what works.

What worksWhat to keep in mind
Generous breakfast, free and spacious parkingDated rooms that are not very large, with worn carpet and walls that need repainting
Courteous and attentive staffOne guest says cleaners came in despite the do not disturb sign
Convenient position between Venice and PaduaA few windows broken in a storm and still not replaced when a guest saw them
Clean rooms, according to manyPlant noise at night, reported in one review

The harshest judgement says the hotel needs a refurbishment, and a very negative review lists sockets that do not work, no WiFi and a shower that flooded the bathroom. It is an account from some years ago, so I would not take it as a description of today, but it shows that maintenance has been a sore point. If you are looking for a new, flawless design, this is not the place.

Who it suits and what to do nearby

I would choose it for someone touring Veneto by car who wants a convenient base for seeing the Riviera villas, for anyone working in the area, or for anyone wanting a hearty breakfast before setting off. It is a good compromise if parking, cleanliness and courtesy matter more to you than the décor.

I would not recommend it to anyone travelling with a pet, as animals are not allowed, or to anyone who wants modern and very quiet rooms. To widen the trip around the region there is the Locanda Righetto in Quinto di Treviso and the B&B Piccole Dolomiti in Belluno. If you head towards Emilia-Romagna, there is also the Palazzo della Racchetta in Ferrara.

From Hotel Villa Giulietta, in Fiesso d'Artico, the most natural trips are to the Palladian villas along the Brenta, Dolo and, as a day trip, Padua and Venice.
